DANGER: CLEAN THE AIR OR WE WILL ACTUALLY DIE ☠️
While the picture above is from a day of fun and games in Lake Louise, Canada, the sign reminding about the dangers of the wilderness is frightening. However, more frightening is the fact that we have a rapidly decreasing number of opportunities to breathe in such fresh air as we do on those days up in the mountains. An absolutely brutal thought.
Let's descend down to our cities around the globe and paint a picture. According to WHO estimates, every year as many as 7 million people die prematurely due to toxic air. That is approximately 127% of Finland's population (?!). And yeah, the number is for year 2016 – shit has been hitting the fan even worse.
As an avid runner, and someone sensitive to air impurities (and toxicity in general), I am Running Up For Air this Midsummer, the 25th of June 2022.
Pitch in by running and gaining 100 meters of elevation, and donating through this Running For Air website.
Running Up For Air is an endurance challenge calling on runners to accumulate vert in the name of clean air.
We run to raise funds for 18 environmental groups fighting for clean air.
Today, across Europe and all around, we are all breathing in toxic air. It damages our health and the environment around us. As trail runners, we feel this and for communities living in busy cities, exposure to air pollution is a critical issue.
Please show your support, however you can.
